Volunteer Event at Caumsett State Park
October 13th at 9AM (rain date: October 14th)
Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve in Lloyd Neck, NY
Volunteers will help collect native grass and wildflower seeds within the park which will be used in the restoration of the native grasslands at Caumsett. Grasslands provide critical habitat to many species of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife and this type of habitat is rapidly disappearing on Long Island due to development and ecological succession. The fields at Caumsett are currently invaded by non-native, invasive plants and woody trees and shrubs. A restoration effort is currently underway to restore the grassland community to Caumsett. Come learn more about grasslands and help us with our restoration efforts. Professional development hours will be offered to those that attend! For more information or to register, please contact Larissa at (631) 632-9216 or ljg85@cornell.edu or Ariana at (631) 581-1072 or Ariana.Newell@parks.ny.gov. You can also register at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHpUdDdRUXplMDJhSjJodlR0R0wtdHc6MQ#gid=0.
